When severe weather or hazardous road conditions impact the area, Riverdale USD prioritizes student and staff safety above all else. District administration closely monitors local forecasts and road conditions alongside local emergency management to make timely decisions regarding closures and schedule adjustments.
There are three types of scenarios:
- Full cancellation – When conditions are expected to be bad most or all of the day, school and activities are canceled.
- Two-hour delay – When conditions are bad in the early morning but expected to improve, start times can be delayed 2 hours. Occasionally a delay can turn into a cancellation if sufficient improvement does not occur.
- Early dismissal – When conditions start ok but then deteriorate through the day, students will be dismissed early. Exactly when depends on the conditions.
